A Guide to Chain Styles

There are many different chain styles, each with its own unique look and feel. All of these styles can be done in a wide variety of sizes. Here are some of the most common chain styles:

Cable chain: This is the most basic chain style, but it is also the most popular. It consists of uniformly sized oval or round links that are interconnected. Links can also be flattened.

 

Rolo Chain

Rolo chain: This chain style consists of circular links made with half round wire that are identical in size and shape, and they are interlocked to create a smooth chain.

 

Steel Ladder Chain

Ladder Chain: This type of chain is made using round wire, lays flat and has a different look from the side. It also has an industrial look and is great option for bracelets.

 

Copper Jewelry Chain

Scroll Chain: This is an interesting chain that’s made by pressing two separate links together.

 

Steel Bar Chain

Bar Chain: This chain is made by linking together pierced bars, which can then be dapped. This is a great necklace chain and was the original “Y” neck chain.

Link & Connector Chain: This chain is made by using round or oval links to connect preformed shapes. This chain is mostly used on bracelets and accessory items.

Curb Chain: This chain style has links that lay flat.  This style is probably the second most popular style behind cable chains. It is used heavily in men’s jewelry.
